Proofs of the Original Intent, (2nd)...

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon, and citizen's firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security, and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land owns firearms, and more than 99-99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference -- they deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes... we need them every hour."

George Washington

The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms...
Samuel Adams,
'The Father of the American Revolution'
*************************************************************************
The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.
Alexander Hamilton
*************************************************************************
"The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all of this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is, that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right, originally belonging to our forefathers, trampled under foot by Charles I. and his two wicked sons and successors, reestablished by the revolution of 1688, conveyed to this land of liberty by the colonists, and finally incorporated conspicuously in our own Magna Carta! And Lexington, Concord, Camden, River Raisin, Sandusky, and the laurel-crowned field of New Orleans, plead eloquently for this interpretation!"
Nunn vs. State,
1 Ga. 243, 250, 25 - (1846)
*************************************************************************
"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”
George Washington
*************************************************************************
"Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?"
Patrick Henry
*************************************************************************
"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes ... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
Thomas Jefferson
*************************************************************************
"The balance of power is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world not destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside ... Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them ... the weak will become prey to the strong."
Thomas Paine
*************************************************************************
(The Virginia ratifying convention met from June 2 through June 26, 1788. Edmund Pendleton, opponent of a bill of rights, weakly argued that abuse of power could be remedied by recalling the delegated powers in a convention).
Patrick Henry shot back that the power to resist oppression rests upon the right to possess arms: "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.
Henry sneered, O sir, we should have fine times, indeed, if, to punish tyrants, it were only sufficient to assemble the people! Your arms, wherewith you could defend yourselves, are gone...Did you ever read of any revolution in a nation...inflicted by those who had no power at all?"
*************************************************************************
[W]hereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it.
Richard Henry Lee, 1788
*************************************************************************
[T]he people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them.
Zacharia Johnson
*************************************************************************
No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson, 1776
*************************************************************************
To be prepared for war, is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace
George Washington
*************************************************************************
To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws.
John Adams
*************************************************************************
One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.

Thomas Jefferson, 1796
*************************************************************************
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.
Noah Webster, 1787
*************************************************************************
Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.
Tenche Coxe, 1788
*************************************************************************
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.
Thomas Jefferson, 1785

Luke 22:36 KJV - Then said he unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one".
Jesus
*************************************************************************
We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles. The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed;
Thomas Jefferson, 1824
*************************************************************************
[W]hen the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, (i.e. - consider how the two largest population centers in the country have been almost completely dis-armed or unconstitutionally regulated - California and New York City),...I ask, who are the militia? They consist of now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor...
George Mason

Those quotes were from the people who were instrumental in the writings of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights. For any lawyer or public official to dispute this - they would have to be assumed delusional!

Your purpose is noble and I would encourage you to continue to voice your opinion. One of the sad, but major problems in citizen bearing arms is and has always been those that are lawless and inflict harm by gun usage.
Those are the ones at blame.
The governments duty is to protect our country...even from itself. It is unfortunate that gun-control should ever have become an issue but there is a certain sanity to it.
I absolutely believe in our right to bear arms. Assemble peacably. Voice our grievances to the government, etc.
The nobility of our founding fathers is lost in the ignomity of MONEY that has taken control of governmnet. Money and power.
George Bush, I beleive is a good president...but he had to want power to strive to get there.
That's just an added truth.
Keep blogging...I'm bookmarking you too.

Hello Snow-Baby!
You are correct in most of what you wrote. It is good to find someone that actually cares! Money IS the root of ALL EVIL! And it is unfortunate tht many in our government pander for it and are corrupted.
One point that I need to diagree with you on...It is NOT the governments duty to protect our country...even from itself. If you examine the writtings of our founders closely. You will find that the founders wanted the PEOPLE to have the FINAL say. And if necessary, to be capable of putting down tyranny, foreign or domestic, should it arise.
The South was in disagreement with the North and tried to secceed from the Union. (Which our founders thought was our right, if the government was abusing power. This is spelled out in the Declaration of Independence) If you trace back where things started going wrong in our government, you'll find it was around the time of the Civil War. And we have steadily went further away from the Truths established by our founders. To the point where this country is unrecognizable, if you were to view it from the founders eyes.
I like President Bush and defend him on a regular basis. However those in power still do nothing to correct the perversions that are so evident in the system.
The whole point in my blog is to reason with THE PEOPLE and help us all to realize how far off we are from the chosen ideals of our founders. Which I beleive were some of the best ideals ever laid out for government.
These ideals have been steadily and deliberately stripped away. By the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. And the brakes need applied or we will 'go over the edge'.
We are not a 'Socialist' system government. We are supposed to be a Republic. Ruled by unalienable law upheld and defended by those we CHOOSE to represent us. When those, that are supposed to represent us, don't particularly care for a 'foundation' stone in our law. That doesn't give them the right to change it. If that were the case we would be have a democratic form of government. We are a Republic. The ONLY democracy is the vote. The principles still need to be upheld. They are the very bedrock our country was built upon!
